I am a Bristol-based playwright and poet, though I identify as ‘Northern with assuredly Jamaican roots’. I studied film and literature in Sheffield, and have spent a major part of my life working with poor communities in West Yorkshire, developing housing and education projects. In recent times I’ve worked in mental health, mainly with women with complex needs, and much of my writing is related to women trying to find space in the world, especially women who are marginalized. I’m interested in working class voices and creating devised theatre, and am inspired by music and movement as a tool for interrogating trauma.

I’m currently working on a piece about shame, using sea shanties to share the experiences of women struggling with mental illness.
